The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005, requires an Employer to provide adequate instruction, training, supervision and information to employees, in a form, manner and language which is reasonably likely to be understood, to enable them to carry out their work safely, without risk to themselves or others.

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 to 2023 place obligations on Employers to provide specific training, for example Manual Handing Training for Employees required to undertake Manual Handling Tasks and sufficient personnel trained in occupational first aid at all places of work.
